MLB Releases "RBI Baseball '19" With New Features, Better Data

This year's "RBI Baseball" features improved data and updated team rosters to better reflect players' abilitiesRBI BASEBALL

MLB today released “RBI Baseball 19,” its earliest ever retail date for the ongoing revival of the classic ‘80s and early ‘90s video game franchise. The league is seeking to build upon last year’s shift to develop the game fully in-house and the ’18 debut of new features such as updated graphics, licensed music and a new franchise mode with retired legends. This year’s version of “RBI Baseball” also will have improved data and roster updates to more accurately reflect the real-world abilities of MLB players. The game includes the late Jackie Robinson as part of the league’s extensive celebration this year of his 100th birthday. “We pushed our code to the limit last year, and this year is about a lot refinements, including better performance, playability, visual fidelity, and depth, and more fluidity,” said MLB Senior VP/Games & VR Jamie Leece. Despite the continued game enhancements, Leece said he does not intend to abandon the more casual nature of “RBI Baseball” or mimic the sport’s flagship simulation video game title, Sony’s “MLB: The Show.” “The essential DNA of ‘RBI’ is all about casual play, accessibility, quick games, and most certainly fun,” Leece said. “We’re always going to stay true to that. We still really see that as the game’s strength.” This year’s cover features Astros 3B Alex Bregman.

CARD SHARKS: MLB has collaborated with Topps to offer limited edition “RBI Baseball 19” baseball card packs for the first time at participating Walmart stores. The packs will be included in specially marked editions of the game for the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Players featured include Bregman, Braves LF Ronald Acuna Jr., A’s DH Khris Davis, Cardinals P Jack Flaherty, Blue Jays SS Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Yankees 2B Gleyber Torres and Dodgers 3B Justin Turner.
