MLB To Celebrate Robinson's 100th Birthday Throughout Season

MLB this week will begin a season-long celebration for the 100th birthday of Jackie Robinson, which is Thursday. Activities will begin with a series of public appearances that day in N.Y. by Robinson’s widow, Rachel, and daughter, Sharon. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred will join the pair and Jackie Robinson Foundation President Della Britton Baeza for an opening reception of a new exhibit featuring the late Robinson at the Museum of the City of N.Y. MLB Network that evening will also air a Ken Burns film on Robinson’s life. Events will continue in February during Black History Month with a series of special Play Ball events in cities with ties to Robinson’s history. Jackie Robinson Day will again be held April 15 around the league with all players and coaches wearing Robinson’s uniform No. 42. A traveling exhibit to promote this December’s opening of the Jackie Robinson Museum in N.Y. will make several stops this summer, including this July in Cleveland during the MLB All-Star Game events. All three MLB-licensed video games -- Sony’s “MLB:The Show,” and MLB’s “Home Run Derby” and “RBI Baseball” -- will also have in-game celebrations of Robinson in this year’s editions.
