MLB Franchise Notes: Angels Want Improved Venue Before New Lease

In California, Jeff Fletcher noted the Angels' lease at Angel Stadium only runs through '20, and the team would "like the city to make some upgrades to the ballpark before they commit beyond that." Angels Owner Arte Moreno said talks with new Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu have been "very positive," and the two have had a "lot of good communication." Fletcher notes in past years, Moreno "had not spoken as optimistically about the team's relationship" with Anaheim (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 2/19).

ANALYTICS AGE: In N.Y., Ken Davidoff noted the Mets want to "catch up to the most innovative and industrious" teams in MLB, and will "lean on" Assistant GM Adam Guttridge, 33, to lead the team in that area. Guttridge said of the size of the department, "We've already more than doubled what existed before (the three analysts) and we're not done yet" (N.Y. POST, 2/19).

WINNING MENTALITY: In Miami, Jordan McPherson wrote the top two men in the Marlins' front office, CEO Derek Jeter and Owner Bruce Sherman, "want results -- even though the team is still in the middle of its growing pains." Sherman said, "We're going to continue to build, but we want to win. We want to win now. We want to win next year. We want to continue to win." McPherson writes winning "looks to be tough this year" as the team continues its "rebuild centered around the development of the team's top prospects in the minor-league system" (MIAMI HERALD, 2/19).
