USA Gymnastics Taps NBA VP Li Li Leung As Next President & CEO

USA Gymnastics has named NBA VP/Global Partnerships Li Li Leung its fourth President & CEO in under two years, finally filling a spot that has been vacant since September as the committee works through Chapter 11 bankruptcy and fights a USOC effort to decertify it. Leung, a former Univ. of Michigan gymnast, will start March 8. She has been with the NBA since '15, and before that held the role of Managing Dir in the Beijing and London offices of Helios Partners LLC during those cities’ respective Olympics. USAG BOD Chair Kathryn Carson said, “She has the passion, the vision, the personal commitment and the resilience to lead USA Gymnastics at this critical juncture." USAG has struggled with one crisis after another in the wake of Larry Nassar's conviction on sex abuse charges, and now faces lawsuits from victims that its lawyers believe could cost it $150M in settlements. Leung said her top priorities are to rebuild the nonprofit’s management team, find a “fair and equitable” resolution with victims, implement suggested changes to the organization’s culture and work with the USOC on its demand to revoke its certification as the sport’s official governing body. Leung said she has spoken with USOC CEO Sarah Hirshland. “We believe we’re still the best option to remain the national governing body going forward,” Leung said. Rebuilding USAG’s commercial portfolio is a more distant priority, Leung said.
