Warriors G STEPHEN CURRY on Tuesday sent an invitation via Instagram to a party tomorrow night at the Fox Theater in downtown Oakland, which will feature "local performers" MISTAH FAB, P-LO, SAWEETIE and E-40. Curry said that the tickets were free, "causing a frenzy among the faithful who showed up to his pop-up store in Old Oakland and were none too pleased when they learned they'd have to buy something in order to get a 'free' ticket.'" In a Twitter response yesterday, Curry "maintained that the tickets would be free and handed out" today between noon-7:00pm PT. However, an earlier email from an Under Armour spoksperson sent to news organizations "told a different story." The email said, "A pair of tickets will be gifted to each customer at SC30 x Oakland pop-up shop with a single purchase of any Under Armour and Stephen Curry product on-site" (MERCURYNEWS.com, 1/2).

IN MEMORY: Former San Diego Union-Tribune sports writer JERRY MAGEE died yesterday at 90. Magee worked at the paper from ’56 through his retirement in ’08 and also wrote “award winning columns for Pro Football Weekly” (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 1/3).
