Former NBAer SHAREEF ABDUR-RAHIM will replace MALCOLM TURNER as NBA G League President with Turner leaving the league to become Vanderbilt AD. Abdur-Rahim, who has worked in the league office since ‘16, formerly worked as Reno Bighorns GM and was most recently NBA VP/Basketball Operations. Front and center for Abdur-Rahim will be carrying on the momentum and growth established under Turner. In addition to bringing on Gatorade as the league’s title partner, the G League has grown to 27 teams -- 10 new teams in the last three years -- and greatly reduced the travel time between parent clubs and their direct affiliates. The G League also made news in October by introducing Select Contracts, deals that pay $125,000 for the five-month season specifically for elite players age 18 who are not yet eligible for the NBA draft.
