The PGA Tour's annual event in the California Desert announced a "new presenting sponsor" at its annual media event yesterday, as the '19 edition of the tournament "will be called the Desert Classic presented by Workday," according to Larry Bohannan of the Palm Springs DESERT SUN. Workday, a computer software company, has "ties to tournament ambassador" Phil Mickelson. The tournament also "announced a new deal with Ford to provide Ford vehicles during the tournament." Tournament Exec Dir Jeff Sanders said that he "does not believe the tournament will have a new title sponsor" before the '19 event. CareerBuilder, the title sponsor for the last three years, last month announced that it "will not return" for '19, though it is "still fully funding the tournament this year." Sanders said that his group is "focusing on a new title sponsor" for '20 (Palm Springs DESERT SUN, 12/4).

FIT FOR A CHAMPION: In Indiana, Pat Hickey notes Victoria National Golf Club outside Evansville "will serve as host of the Web.com Tour Championship" under a 10-year agreement "beginning Labor Day weekend 2019 and running every season" through '28. The Tour Championship replaces the United Leasing & Finance Championship, the annual Web.com spring event "played at Victoria National" since '12. UL&F "will continue as the title sponsor" (Evansville COURIER & PRESS, 12/4).
