Josh Lewin Leaving Mets Radio Booth For New Padres Gig

Sources said that Lewin will not be replacing anyone at San Diego-based KWFN-FMJOSH LEWIN

Radio broadcaster Josh Lewin is "leaving the Mets" and "taking a newly created position on Padres radio in which he will primarily be the pre- and postgame host," according to sources cited by Andrew Marchand of the N.Y. POST. Lewin has "family roots in San Diego and was the longtime voice of the Chargers" before they moved to L.A. Sources said that Lewin "will not be replacing anyone" at KWFN-FM. The Padres’ lead play-by-play man, Ted Leitner, is "akin to what John Sterling is with the Yankees, having done games there since 1980." His partner is Jesse Agler, and "both are remaining on games" (NYPOST.com, 11/19). Marchand in a separate piece noted Howie Rose, the Mets' lead play-by-play announcer, has "agreed to terms for a new deal and will return as the voice of the team." Rose’s new partner is "not yet determined," but Wayne Randazzo, a former Mets pre- and postgame host, is a "leading candidate." Lewin "had been Rose’s partner for the past five years" (N.Y. POST, 11/18). Sources said that WFAN VP/Programming Mark Chernoff, "with approval from the Mets, wanted to make the change" from Lewin (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/18). AWFUL ANNOUNCING's Phillip Bupp wrote Lewin and Rose had a "highly respected partnership." News of Lewin's departure "made people unhappy as one of the better broadcast pairings won't be back" (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 11/17).
