Michael Jordan Headlines Latest Fundraising Round For aXiomatic

Michael Jordan has invested in esports, joining a $26M fundraising round for aXiomatic, the owner of top-tier organization Team Liquid. Declaration Capital, the family office of Carlyle Group co-Founder and co-Exec Chair David Rubensteinand Hornets Managing Partner Curtis Polk also invested. aXiomatic said it will use the funding to enhance Team Liquid and developing new “esports experiences.” aXiomatic was founded by Monumental Sports & Entertainment Chair & CEO Ted Leonsis, Warriors co-Owner Peter Guber and aXiomatic co-Founder & CEO Bruce Stein. The company in '16 acquired a controlling interest in Liquid, which is one of the 10 franchise holders in Riot Games’ North American League of Legends Championship Series. Jordan in a statement said, "I’m excited to expand my sports equity portfolio through my investment in aXiomatic. Esports is a fast-growing, international industry and I’m glad to partner with this great group of investors.” Other backers of aXiomatic include Lightning Owner Jeff Vinik, Magic Johnson, AOL co-Founder Steve Case and Disney. It last raised funding in May. In addition to Liquid, it has a stake in Super League Gaming. The valuation of aXiomatic and the ownership stakes received in the transaction were not disclosed.
