Franchise Notes

In Nashville, Joey Garrison notes Metro councilwoman Angie Henderson has "proposed increasing the ticket tax that users will pay to attend games" at the city's future MLS stadium to "minimize Metro government's exposure" as debt for the $275M project is retired. Under current plans finalized by the Metro Council last month, the stadium "would have a $1.75 ticket tax for the first five years of operations that would graduate to $2.25 beginning in year six." But Henderson's ordinance would "increase the ticket tax" to 10% of "cost of each game." That would mean the ticket tax under Henderson's plan "could be at least $5" (TENNESSEAN.com, 10/8).

WITH ARMS WIDE OPEN: In San Diego, Nick Canepa wrote under the header, "If The Raiders Were Smart, They'd Play In San Diego In 2019." It "appears as though those who run the city of Oakland ... don't want the team around next year and could be lining up an antitrust lawsuit" against the team. If the Raiders had a chance to play at SDCCU Stadium, they likely "not only would supply the dates, but do a good job filling seats." It is "highly doubtful" 49ers CEO Jed York "wants them in Santa Clara." There is also UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium, but it is "not really conducive for NFL games" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 10/7).

CLASSING IT UP: In Denver, Jeff Bailey reported the Nuggets have a "new look at the Pepsi Center with some fresh hardwood" for the upcoming NBA season. The team "released a photo of the updated logo at center court online." The Nuggets earlier this year "released new logos and an updated look as they put a modern spin on what has been a classic look" (DENVER POST, 10/6).
