WARREN BUFFETT said that LEBRON JAMES' skills "go beyond basketball," as the billionaire praised James for his "money mind." Buffett said, "People really do have minds that function better than other people's in certain areas that you can't give a test for. And LeBron, in addition to a lot of other talents, he has a money mind. And he gets stuff." Buffett also said James can "separate out the cream from the crap, and you get more of the latter proposed to you than you do of the former." Buffett: "You really have to be able to suss it out" (USATODAY.com, 10/2).

FOND FAREWELL: Retiring Mets 3B DAVID WRIGHT was "thrown an intimate dinner" at Tao Downtown following his MLB finale last Saturday by his agents, ACES' SAM and SETH LEVINSON. Guests included Mets COO JEFF WILPON and teammates JACOB DEGROM, STEVEN MATZ and MICHAEL CONFORTO (N.Y. POST, 10/3).

NAMES: The father of former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver JUSTIN BOSTON was "sentenced to 10 years in prison on fraud charges" after he "defrauded his company's investors and franchise owners while spending a substantial amount of money" to help his son become a NASCAR driver. Justin Boston drove in a truck "emblazoned with the logo" of his dad ROBERT's recycling company Zloop. Kyle Busch Motorsports "terminated" Justin Boston's two-year, $6M contract in '15 "because of missed payments" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 10/2)....Two divers have "filed a federal class action law suit" against USA Diving, former coach JOHN WINGFIELD and his Indiana diving academy. The suit alleges that Wingfield and the academy "ignored numerous sexual abuse complaints" against coach JOHEL RAMIREZ SUAREZ, who later "sexually assaulted them" (OCREGISTER.com, 10/2)....The Rockets signed two patients at Children's of Alabama Hospital to "one-day contracts" before their preseason game yesterday (HOUSTONCHRONICLE.com, 10/2).
