Media Notes

In N.Y., Andrew Marchand notes the next steps for the Mets' radio team are "deciding who will be sitting next to Howie Rose" in the WCBS-AM booth and who will be "doing the pre- and postgame." For the play-by-play position, it will "likely come down to the incumbent, Josh Lewin," and current studio host Wayne Randazzo. Lewin has "been in the booth" since '12, and his play-by-play is "solid enough, though at times he is information overload." Lewin and Rose can "sound a bit stilted together," while Randazzo is an "up-and-comer and does have a more breezy delivery." Meanwhile, sources said that longtime WFAN-AM Mets reporter Ed Coleman has "mulled retirement" (N.Y. POST, 9/18).

ANIMATION DOMINATION: DIGIDAY's Lucinda Southern notes Bleacher Report Football "launched a 13-episode animated series" to help increase its soccer audience. The show, called "The Champions," is a "spoof-reality TV series" where all 800 UEFA Champions League players and their managers "live in a chateau." The first episode "follows the players moving into the chateau," with Tottenham F Harry Kane "trying to lead his team through the mansion's stately gardens." Each episode "lasts between two and three minutes." The series "builds off the success" B/R has seen with its animated "Game of Zones" and "Gridiron Heights" series, which spoof the NBA and NFL, respectively (DIGIDAY.com, 9/18).

APPLE DOESN'T FALL FAR: AWFUL ANNOUNCING’s Andrew Bucholtz noted ESPN’s Karl Ravech’s son, Sam, is “joining the network as a college sports play-by-play broadcaster.” He will be “doing play-by-play for college sports including baseball, basketball, and volleyball.” He has “been calling games” for the Double-A Eastern League Richmond Flying Squirrels for the past two seasons, and he “made his ESPN3 debut at age 22 last year” (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 9/14).
