Packers' New Self-Serve Concession Stands A Hit With Fans In Debut

The Packers would like the two stands with scanners to eventually take credit cards or Apple Pay onlyPackers

The Packers had three new "grab-and-go" concession stands at Lambeau Field for Sunday's matchup with the Bears, and one was sold out of items "just before kickoff," according to a front-page piece by Richard Ryman of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE. The stands "resemble a convenience store in that fans help themselves to items from coolers and shelves, or order from the grill." The three new stands also include "different check-out options." One of the stands has staff "manning cash registers, one utilizes bar-code scanners, such as those in grocery stores, and the third uses video scanners, which can scan multiple items at one time." Packers Dir of Development & Hospitality Charlie Millerwise said that sales transactions at all three stands were at least 70% "more than at standard concession stands," and the stand manned by cashiers had more than a 100% increase. The Packers would like the two stands with scanners to "eventually take credit cards or Apple Pay only." The team had "staff-manned registers to handle cash transactions Sunday," although it was not always "clear which checkout was which." The self-serve stands will "provide two significant benefits" for the Packers and their fans. The stands will "get fans back to their seats faster and also relieve an ongoing shortage of the volunteers who work the concession stands" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 9/14).
