Audience Analysis: PGA Tour Up; Serena-Venus Strong For ESPN

NBC averaged 3.17 million viewers for the final round of the PGA Tour Dell Technologies Championship on Monday (second leg of FedExCup Playoffs), as Bryson DeChambeau won his second consecutive event. That figure is up 8% from last year. Tiger Woods finished 24th this year and did not play in '17. Golf Channel averaged 1 million viewers heading into NBC’s coverage on Monday, up 81% from '17. Third-round coverage on NBC was up 9% on Sunday, while GC was up 44%.

FAMILY TIE: The third-round U.S. Open match on Friday night between Venus and Serena Williams, which was moved from ESPN2 to ESPN, drew 1.95 million viewers. That marks the third-best matchup between the sisters all-time on ESPN networks (10 matches). Friday’s match ranks below only the '15 U.S. Open quarterfinals (3.32 million) and '03 Australian Open final (2.4 million). Overall, the sisters have played 30 times.

GETTING OLD? NBCSN averaged 2.66 million viewers for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race from Darlington over Labor Day weekend, which has featured a retro theme the last four years. That figure is down from 3.1 million viewers on the cable net last year. Two years ago, on NBC, the race drew 4.64 million, while the inaugural throwback weekend race averaged 5.92 million in '15.
