Sources: MLB Could Reinstate "Papa Slam" Promotion With Pizza Chain

MLB began the promotion in '16 that allowed fans to get 40% off their Papa John's order after a grand slamGETTY IMAGES

MLB may "reinstate its 'Papa Slam' promotion" with Papa John's after more than a half-dozen MLB teams that "broke ties with the embattled pizza chain have quietly restored their partnerships," according to a source cited by Lisa Fickenscher of the N.Y. POST. About 20 sports leagues, universities and teams "dropped Papa John's last month" after the scandal involving Founder John Schnatter. On Sunday, the Orioles became the seventh known MLB team to "begin offering Papa John's promotions again." A Papa John's spokesperson said that other teams are "considering reinstatement as well." The Yankees last week moved to "show support for some 120 local franchisees in the tri-state area" (N.Y. POST, 8/14).

BACK ON THE HORSE: In Indianapolis, Jordan Guskey noted the Colts have "decided to maintain a relationship" with Papa John's, while Pacers Sports & Entertainment "has not deviated from its initial July statement that announced a decision to evaluate its relationship with the pizza company." The Colts believe it is in their "best interest not to change course because of how the company has reacted in the aftermath of the scandal" resulting from Schnatter's comments. A Pacers official said that PS&E "stands by its original statement." The Pacers did not respond yesterday when asked if they had a "timetable for making a decision" (INDYSTAR.com, 8/13).
