Gold Medal-winning swimmer Katie Ledecky's new endorsement deal with Tyr Sport is worth $7M and "runs through" the '24 Paris Games, according to sources cited by Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. The deal is "considered one of the richest ever in the sport." Ledecky said that she "wants to grow the sport and will work with the company toward that end" (ESPN.com, 6/8). Ledecky said, "I’m really appreciative of the commitment and the investment that TYR has made in me and the support they’re going to show me for these next few years." USA TODAY's Christine Brennan noted Ledecky is "almost certain to become the highest profile American" heading into the '20 Tokyo Games. While the accompanying hype "might be too overwhelming for some young athletes, Ledecky appears ready to embrace it from her perch as the rare woman in sports earning more than male athletes in the same sport." She said Tyr has "recognized that excellence has no gender" (USATODAY.com, 6/8).
