Tyr Sport Signs Katie Ledecky Ahead Of Tokyo Games

Ledecky joins a Tyr roster that has also included major swimmers like Ryan Lochte and Matt GreversGETTY IMAGES

Gold Medal-winning U.S. swimmer Katie Ledecky has chosen Tyr Sport as her swimwear sponsor, the first of presumably many endorsement deals for her heading into the '20 Tokyo Games. Terms are not known, but a statement claims it is the "most lucrative partnership in the history of the swim industry." Ledecky, who turned pro in April, is widely seen as the most marketable Olympian expected to compete in Tokyo. Tyr's other major swimmers have included Ryan Lochte, Dana Vollmer and Matt Grevers. Ledecky is repped by Wasserman (Ben Fischer, Staff Writer). In DC, Rick Maese notes Ledecky last month at the Tyr Pro Swim Series meet in Indianapolis wore the "gear of multiple companies before apparently settling" on Tyr. The company "has sponsored the U.S. swim team since 2013" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/8). SWIMSWAM.com's Jared Anderson notes Ledecky is the "first of the ‘Big Three’" -- Caeleb Dressel, Simone Manuel and herself -- to announce a swimsuit deal. All three are turning pro this season, and one source said they are the "most marketable swimmers to go pro since Michael Phelps” (SWIMSWAM.com, 6/8).
