ESPN Digital Media was honored as Best In Digital Media at the '18 Sports Business Awards following a year that saw enormous growth in its app and fantasy business. “In my first few months on the job, I will tell you that my admiration and appreciation for the digital group at ESPN is well beyond my wildest expectations,” said ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro while accepting the award on stage. Afterward, Pitaro spoke about the recent launch of streaming service ESPN+. “We’re very proud of it,” he said. “We’re proud of the app. We’re proud of the ESPN+ component. People are trying it out, and we’re very pleased with the conversion from free to pay. We’re very pleased with the product itself. We’re very pleased with the breadth of experience that we’re offering. We feel like we’re speaking to both hardcore passionate sports fans that want more. But it’s also speaking to sports fans that feel underserved by what we currently have on air.”
