Sports Business Awards: Little Caesars Arena Named Top Facility

Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena, home of the Pistons and the Red Wings, won the award for Sports Facility of the Year at the '18 Sports Business Awards. The $870M arena has played a key role in the city’s revitalization efforts, which perhaps is its most important feature according to Ilitch Holdings President & CEO Chris Ilitch. “For us, it represents so much more than just sports,” he said, noting that it is a cornerstone piece of the new District Detroit, a mixed use urban development that will bring more than $1.4B in new investment to the city. Ilitch said that one element of the arena that stands out to him is its deconstructed layout, which essentially forms an indoor street around the facility. It is open year-round and features offices and restaurants, while also serving as the concourse during events. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work on this project and give something like this to the city,” Ilitch said.
