TeamWorks Raises $15.3M In New Capital, Will Use For Growth

North Carolina-based software company Teamworks has raised $15.3M in new capital and "plans to use the cash for growth," according to Lauren Ohnesorge of the TRIANGLE BUSINESS JOURNAL. Teamworks Founder & President Zach Maurides said that the company, which already has more than 80 employees, is "planning to hire 60 people this year." The company will be "adding an additional 7,000 square feet of space at a building adjacent to its downtown Durham headquarters operation." Teamworks is also "exploring new sports segments." Maurides said that Teamworks "has a 'presence' in every major professional league and is expanding to governing bodies, such as USA Track." It is "building up conference relationships, such as a recent partnership expansion with the ACC" and is "expanding internationally" -- it recently added the Australian national rugby team as a client. Maurides said that Teamworks' success this past year "actually meant competition among potential lead investors for its latest round." Massachusetts-based General Catalyst Partners won out, aligning "well with what we were trying to build and accomplish." Eight existing investors "contributed to the raise too ... leading to nine total" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/8). Teamworks was advised by Inner Circle Sports, a boutique investment bank focused on the global team sports and sports technology industries (THE DAILY).
