On The Radio: Reds Tap FS Ohio's Jim Day To Fill In On Broadcasts When Needed

In Cincinnati, Zach Buchanan reported FS Ohio's Jim Day will "take over in the radio booth" for the Reds whenever either play-by-play announcer Marty Brennaman or color commentator Jeff Brantley is unavailable. The Reds have "yet to identify an eventual successor" to Brennaman, but they have "found their back-up for the time being." Day will also "contribute to the pre- and postgame radio shows" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 12/21). The Reds earlier this offseason announced plans not to bring back announcer Jim Kelch, and Day will "replace much of his coverage." The Reds have "used an inordinate amount of announcers the last several years." One count "had as many as 10 last year with a rotation between regular rotation of part timers, and announcers bouncing between radio and television coverage" (DAYTON DAILY NEWS, 12/21).

LOCKING IN THE TAZMISSION: CBS Sports Radio announced the debut of its new morning show, "Taz and the Moose," which launches Jan. 2 from 6:00-9:00am ET. The show will be anchored by former pro wrestler-turned-podcaster Pete Senerchia and SNY's Marc Malusis. The new show replaces "Gio & Jones," as Gregg Giannotti is leaving to co-host WFAN's morning show with Boomer Esiason (THE DAILY). Meanwhile, SPORTING NEWS' Michael McCarthy cited a source as saying that Craig Carton, Esiason's former co-host, is "in talks with fast-growing" Barstool Sports. The company has been "hiring more big-name outsiders" such as actor Michael Rapaport, former NFLer Pat McAfee and former MLBer Dallas Braden (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 12/19).

BROTHERLY LOVE: NBC Sports Philadelphia has "agreed to a partnership with Beasley Media Group" to simulcast WPEN-FM's "popular afternoon drive radio show hosted by Mike Missanelli." The show will simulcast weekdays from 2:00-5:00pm ET on the RSN after "both sides work out logistics." The radio show airs on WPEN from 2:00-6:00pm. Meanwhile, Missanelli had "signed a new multiyear contract that will kick in when his current deal expires at the end of this year" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/20).
