American Cancer Society Launches Sports & Experiences Auction During Holiday Season

The American Cancer Society has launched its first-ever Sports & Experiences Auction in an attempt to raise money to fund cancer research grants and help with patients' travel expenses. People can bid on more than 75 different items through an eBay auction, including a baseball signed by Astros 2B and AL MVP Jose Altuve, a Russell Wilson-signed football and a jersey signed by Basketball HOFer Julius Erving. Experiences up for bid include VIP outings at the Pro Bowl, ’18 NFL Draft, the Opening Day of the French Open and the ‘18 Millrose Games. Also up for bid is a Spring Training experience with the Braves that includes participating in team batting practice, as well as tickets to an Indians game with the opportunity to throw out the first pitch. ACS Chief Development & Marketing Officer Sharon Byers said via email the non-profit organization is always looking for new ways to expand its reach. The goal of the auction is to highlight its sports partners and recognize them for their participation in fighting cancer. “This is a fun and unique way during the holiday season to showcase our incredible partners and provide exciting items and experiences for fans to bid on,” Byers said. Plans for the future include adding more unique experiences and making the auction an annual event. Bidding runs through Dec. 22, with 100% of the proceeds going to the ACS.
