Minneapolis Host Committee Adds Mississippi River Zipline For Fans Attending Super Bowl LII

Fans attending the festivities surrounding Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis will have the opportunity to "partake in a zipline that sends riders across the Mississippi River at heights of 100 feet," according to Nick Halter of the MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL BUSINESS JOURNAL. Canada-based Ziptrek Ecotours will "build a tower near Nicollet Island Inn and launch people 750 feet across the river at speeds of 20 to 30 miles per hour." The "Bold North Zipline" will have "four lanes and run during the 10 days leading up to the Super Bowl." Ziptrek Ecotours also "built a zipline" for Super Bowl XLVI in '12 and the '10 Vancouver Games. Minneapolis Mayor-elect Jacob Frey, who currently represents Nicollet Island and downtown on the City Council, said that he "will be the first to cross the river" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/13). In Minneapolis, Rochelle Olson notes those interested in the zipline "must sign up in advance through the Super Bowl Host Committee website." The zipline will "cost $30 per person." Former NFLer Robert Griffith is "sponsoring the event with his nascent backpack company XOOX." The zipline hours will be "mostly after dark, perfect for seeing the city’s twinkling skyline" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 12/15).
