South Korea President To Promote PyeongChang Games In N.Y. Later This Month

Organizers of the PeyongChang Games will take the unusual step of convening a major promotional event in N.Y. on Sept. 20 amid growing concern over meager ticket sales and marketing buzz for the event. South Korea President Moon Jae-in will unveil the Olympics' medals after a VIP dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and senior officials from POCOG will take questions on final preparations for the Games. The event, which will occur simultaneously with a medal unveiling in South Korea, coincides with the United Nations’ general assembly nearby in midtown Manhattan. It is not unprecedented for Games organizers to promote their event internationally, but involving the national head of state while overseas is an unusual step. Officials last week acknowledged that only about 22% of 1.18 million tickets have been sold so far, mostly to international resellers. That means many of those tickets are not in the hands of end users.
