Katie Nolan Still Curiously Absent From FS1 Months After "Garbage Time" Cancellation

FS1's Katie Nolan has been "largely invisible since the Super Bowl," and there has been "no news about any potential new show" for her after the end of "Garbage Time" in February, according to Rob Tornoe of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Her production company Embassy Row is "staying quiet," and Nolan herself "hasn’t appeared on any of the many shows her network airs." Nolan "isn’t speaking publicly about her current status with the network," but she "did appear to be venting a bit about her situation on Twitter on Monday." Nolan: "Man. I miss working." Tornoe notes there also have been "rumors that despite going through a round of on-air layoffs, ESPN tried to lure Nolan away from Fox Sports." However, former ESPN The Magazine reporter Jim Weber tweeted he believes Nolan's situation is a "perfect microcosm of FS1 as whole." Weber: "She's being paid to sit at home twiddling thumbs while [the] network's ratings suck" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 5/10). In DC, Matt Bonesteel notes nearly three months after the "Garbage Time" cancellation, audiences "still don’t know what exactly Fox has in mind for Nolan." Bonesteel: "Apparently she doesn’t, either." When she does return to FS1, it still "isn’t clear what kind of show she’ll be hosting." The "reason things still appear to be up in the air might be because Fox Sports is truly conflicted about how to best move forward with Nolan." Sporting News' Michael McCarthy reported she "still has around 16 months left" on her contract (WASHINGTON POST, 5/10).

COMING UP NEXT: SI.com's Richard Deitsch believes Nolan's tweet on Monday was to let her bosses "know that it's time for them to find a vehicle for her." SI.com's Jimmy Traina asked, "You don't think they have a vehicle in place already? How long is she supposed to sit around and do nothing?" Deitsch: "I hope for her and her crew, they have something coming soon." Traina: "Pretty bizarre that they have a network that nobody watches and can't just put her on there somewhere for 30 minutes a day." Deitsch noted Nolan is "talented" and it is "up to management to figure something out" (SI.com, 5/9).
