Nassau Coliseum To Re-Open With Naming-Rights Deal From New York Community Bank

Nassau Coliseum finally has a commercial nameplate, as the former home of the Islanders will reopen in April as the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Presented by New York Community Bank. The adjoining entertainment/retail development, also scheduled to be completed next year, will be known as “NYCB Live.” Total cost of the renovations on the 77-acre site is $260M. NYCB has 240 branches in the Northeast, 40 of which are located on Long Island. As the amalgam of number of acquisitions, including most recently Astoria Financial, NYCB could use the branding. NYCB’s 40 Long Island branches should provide a good platform to promote the new Coliseum complex. Founding sponsors at the complex are Tri-State Ford, JetBlue, LIU Post and Ticketmaster. Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment operates the arena. The Coliseum complex naming rights deal is the sixth for BS&E in the N.Y. market, and sources said it is looking to establish a national presence for its naming-rights capabilities. Other buildings in the market with naming-rights sold by BS&E include Barclays Center, Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island, High Point Solutions Stadium, Izod Center and the Nets HSS Training Center. The renamed Long Island arena is scheduled to open on April 5 with a Billy Joel concert. The venue hopes to host more than 200 events in its first 12 months of operation -- a mix of concerts, family shows, college basketball and the D-League Long Island Nets.
