Longtime U.S. Olympic Advocate Anita DeFrantz Planning To Write Memoirs

IOC Exec Committee member and Bronze Medal-winning rower ANITA DEFRANTZ plans to write her memoirs after she leaves the LA84 Foundation at the end of the month. DeFrantz, a leader of the U.S. Olympic movement for three decades, is looking for a writing “guide” to assist her, she said. DeFrantz was an outspoken opponent of the U.S. boycott of the '80 Moscow Games, and later was named to both the IOC and the USOC boards. "I’m still looking for someone to help me,” DeFrantz said. "I have an oral history that was done, but that only goes up to 2001. So I have some down. I need an assistant. I think the other word is a ghostwriter, but I don’t like that word so much. Somebody who can guide me, maybe an editor.” DeFrantz announced in May that she would leave the LA84 Foundation, which manages the budget surplus created by the ’84 L.A. Games. That surplus endowed the foundation with $93M to start, and has since distributed more than $220M to youth sporting organizations in southern California. DeFrantz has led the organization for 28 years.  Her replacement, RENATA SIMRIL, will start Jan. 4.
