UNLV Seeks To Tie Football Program To City By Featuring Vegas Imagery On New Uniforms

The UNLV football team has "unveiled their new Nike uniforms" for the '15 season, which feature several references to the city of Las Vegas, according to Taylor Bern of the LAS VEGAS SUN. The football program for the first time "will have multiple helmet colors with red and silver, and on the back both feature a three-inch sticker of the 'Welcome to Las Vegas' sign." There are three sets of jerseys and pants in red, white and black, and each one "features a local touch." The white pants "have block letters spelling out LAS VEGAS on each side while the red and black pants have a diamond design from the Stardust sign that can still be seen at the Neon Museum." The new uniforms are part of UNLV coach Tony Sanchez' efforts to "tie the team more closely the city and sell both to a higher caliber of player" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 4/30).

WHAT'S IN STORRS? In Hartford, Russell Blair noted the UConn football team "will have new uniforms" for the '15 season. While the team's old uniforms "had an image of a Husky on the top of the helmet, the new helmets have a Husky on the side." Other changes include "dropping 'UConn' from the front of the jerseys and some additional red accents" (COURANT.com, 4/29).
