Franchise Notes

In New Jersey, Charles Toutant reported the Devils "have been hit with a putative class action claiming the team violates state law by restricting the resale of individual tickets by season ticket holders." The suit claims that the team "designates Ticketmaster as its exclusive ticket reseller, and cancels season tickets or imposes extra fees when fans resell tickets by other means," including StubHub. Plaintiffs claim the team’s restrictions on resales "violate explicit protections to ticket holders’ rights under New Jersey statutes to sell their seats without encumbrances." The suit was brought by two Devils season ticket holders, Rey Olsen and Alex Olsen, who "claim they had their 2013-14 season tickets canceled after they sought to resell individual tickets for nights when they could not attend games" (NJLAWJOURNAL.com, 4/22).

ROAD LESS TRAVELED
: In Jacksonville, Vito Stellino writes the Jaguars playing in London is good for the team's "bottom line," as the games "provide much needed revenue for a small market team that hasn’t raised ticket prices" since Owner Shahid Khan bought the club in '12. However, the Jaguars should "lobby to play a road game or two in London when the agreement is extended" at the end of the '16 season. Giving up a home game every year is "becoming a competitive disadvantage" (JACKSONVILLE.com, 4/22).

LEAVING HIS MARK: CBSSPORTS.com's Jon Heyman noted following a "disastrous 2-12" start to the season, Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio yesterday "was en route" to Milwaukee. Sources said that Attanasio "decided within the last two or three days to fly to Milwaukee." Brewers GM Doug Melvin suggested Attanasio, who lives in L.A., "wants to reinforce the notion he's engaged and won't abandon the team at this difficult time." Heyman wrote Attanasio "has done that throughout his 11-year tenure" (CBSSPORTS.com, 4/22). Attanasio said of the team's poor start, “It’s brutal. You turn on the TV every night and expect to see something different, and I know one of these nights we will” (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/23).
