Hitting The Jackpot: Red Sox' David Ortiz To Appear On Maine Lottery Tickets

Red Sox DH David Ortiz later this week will become the first MLBer to appear on a state lottery ticket. The Maine Lottery will put tickets on sale Thursday at its 1,300 retail locations and the image of Big Papi will appear on them, something permissible by MLB rules starting this season. MLB has licensed state lottery tickets with team logos since '06, when Maine and Massachusetts signed on. Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages & Lottery Operations Deputy Dir Timothy Poulin said, "Clearly, Ortiz has been the face of the Red Sox for some time and having him in some lottery prizes that include experiential opportunities with him should really help sales, even from people who don't usually play the lottery." Ortiz will appear in TV, radio, and point-of-sale advertising for the Maine Lottery, along with digital and social campaigns. Ortiz has an aggregate following on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram of more than 3 million. Alex Radetsky at Radegen Sports Management handles marketing for Ortiz. Tom George handled the deal for Scientific Games, Atlanta.
