Orlando City SC Sells Out MLS Debut, Expects Crowd Of More Than 60,000 At Citrus Bowl

MLS expansion club Orlando City SC Founder & President Phil Rawlins announced yesterday that the team "has sold out" its MLS debut at the Citrus Bowl on Sunday against NYC FC, according to Paul Tenorio of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. It is "unclear what the official stadium attendance will be," but the club is "expecting 60,000-plus in attendance for the opener." The team previously announced that it "had fewer than 1,000 season tickets left, and single-game tickets were disappearing quickly on Ticketmaster." Rawlins also confirmed that tickets "were no longer available by purchasing admission to any of the events in the week-long build-up to the opener on Sunday." There "are still a small amount of season tickets available for purchase." The "record for an MLS debut is 69,255" for the Galaxy’s inaugural home game at the Rose Bowl in '96 (ORLANDOSENTINEL.com, 3/2). In Florida, Michael Parsons wrote the NYC FC-Orlando City game will air on ESPN2, and the club "has events scheduled throughout the week" in preparation of the opener. There will be a "Soccer and the City evening at Church Street Exchange" beginning at 6:00pm ET today. Among the events will be "the debut of the away jerseys." The team also announced that its second home game against the Whitecaps "is nearing a sellout" (FLORIDA TODAY, 3/3).
