Fore! WME/IMG Close Acquisition Of Golf Agency Icon Sports Management

WME/IMG has closed its acquisition of golf talent agency Icon Sports Management, whose client list includes Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Icon CEO & Founder R.J. Nemer will become Senior VP/Head of Golf Clients in the Americas. In this new role, Nemer will be responsible for expanding and managing IMG’s golf client base in North America. He will work from the IMG office in Cleveland. SportsBusiness Journal first reported the move on Feb. 2. In addition to representing golfers, Icon also runs hospitality and consults with corporate clients, such as Mutual of Omaha. All of Icon's functions will roll into IMG Golf. IMG Global Head of Golf Guy Kinnings in a statement said, "Over the past two decades, Icon has blossomed into a premier agency with the respect of everyone in the golf industry." He added the announcement "further signals the growth that our golf division has enjoyed recently, and we are excited to carry this momentum through 2015 and beyond.”
