NBA Marketplace Roundup: New Adidas, Foot Locker Creative Accompanies Start Of Season

adidas and the NBA yesterday announced the debut of an "NBA Swingman" marketing campaign around the launch of a revamped jersey design. The effort will feature five TV spots, beginning with an ad starring Rockets C Dwight Howard. Spots featuring T'Wolves F Andrew Wiggins, Trail Blazers G Damian Lillard, Nuggets F Kenneth Faried and Bulls C Joakim Noah will follow in the coming weeks. Other activation will appear via social media, digital platforms and retail (NBA). Foot Locker yesterday also debuted a new ad featuring Wizards G John Wall and his first signature adidas shoe, the J Wall 1, which is available exclusively at the retailer. The spot, titled "The Process," is part of the ongoing "Approved" campaign. The ad, via BBDO, N.Y., debuts on TV tonight on TNT (Foot Locker).

KAWHI-OT RIOT: In San Antonio, Dan McCarney noted Spurs G Kawhi Leonard will sport his own logo this season, and Leonard’s initials "will be incorporated into the logo," which "looks like there’s a small '2' notched into the base of the index finger" (MYSANANTONIO.com, 10/28).

JUST IN THE KICKS OF TIME: In Portland, Allan Brettman noted Nike this week announced the release of its LeBron 12 "just in time for the start of the NBA season." The "high-profile shoe" of Cavaliers F LeBron James had been "delayed over an unspecified quality control issue." Dubbed the LeBron 12 "Heart of a Lion," the sneaker also is "being marketed with a complementary array" of James' signature apparel (OREGONLIVE.com, 10/28).

GETTING WIGGY WITH IT: In St. Paul, Kevin Cusick noted for most of the past few decades, the T-Wolves have been "DOA in the NBA." But thanks to their "new rookie sensation" Wiggins, they are "getting an AOK from the folks at GQ." But he is "no rookie when it comes to fashion," and is "getting full star treatment in the November issue" (TWINCITIES.com, 10/28).
