Dynamo, BHP Billiton Agree To Sponsorship Deal For Jerseys, Signage

The Dynamo and Australia-based BHP Billiton have entered a partnership that makes the global resources company the exclusive jersey sponsor and premier partner of the franchise. The Dynamo will debut jerseys featuring BHP Billiton for Friday’s home game against the Red Bulls. The partnership includes the company’s logo on Dynamo and on the back of the NWSL Houston Dash jerseys (Dynamo). In Houston, Rhiannon Walker noted the front of the Dynamo's uniforms have “lacked a premier sponsor for a year and a half.” The deal with BHP Billiton will extend through ‘17 with a “two-year option.” Dynamo Exec VP Steven Powell "would have liked to secure a sponsorship sooner, but he wanted to find the right partner.” Powell “didn't want to sign with a company that would write checks but have no community involvement.” In early '13, the Dynamo ended a three-year shirt deal with Greenstar Recycling. This is the “second jersey sponsorship deal” for the Dash. In January, BBVA Compass, the company with naming rights to the teams' Houston stadium, signed a five-year deal to sponsor the Dash's jerseys and apparel. The new gear is “available to fans at the team's store at BBVA Compass Stadium.” For those who have a ‘14 jersey, they can “go to the stadium and have the BHP Billiton logo put on it for free” (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/1).
