Geiger Stepping Down From Wisconsin-Milwaukee AD Role He Took On Last May

The Univ. of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has “formally begun a search for a new athletic director to replace Andy Geiger, the former Ohio State athletic director who took the UWM job last May,” according to Don Walker of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Geiger notified UWM athletic department staff members last month that he would “continue as athletic director until the search is completed.” Geiger added that he “would stay on at UWM in a different role.” Geiger said, “This move is inevitable given the reality that my tenure here is limited by design.” Walker notes when Geiger “took over in May, it was supposed to be a one-year appointment with an option for a longer term.” Since ’09, UWM has “gone through two athletic directors as well as an interim director.” Geiger has been “asked to play a large role in shaping a comprehensive strategic plan for the school’s athletic program.” That plan was to have “included discussion of a new arena, possibly on campus” (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 12/4).
