USA Track & Field today is expected to announce it has renewed its search for a new CEO and hopes to name a top exec prior to its Olympic Trials in late June. The organization has been without a CEO since Doug Logan left in September '10. USATF last searched for a new CEO early last year. It identified three finalists for the job but did not hire anyone. The renewed search will be led by a new CEO search committee than worked on the previous search effort. It includes USATF President & Chair Stephanie Hightower and board members Steve Miller, Deena Kastor, Aretha Thurmond and Mickey Carter. In a statement, Hightower said, “Our board of directors is committed to engaging a strong, visionary leader who combines success in the sports business marketplace with the political acumen, knowledge of our sport and people skills that are so essential to being successful in this position. We have everything we need to conduct this search thoroughly and expediently. Our athletes have shown they are ready for the Olympic Trials and Olympic Games. We want to ensure that as an organization we are ready as well.” In the job description, the USATF says it is looking for an accomplished “business leader” with a track record of “growing revenue, managing a diverse staff and working productively with a strong, diverse board of directors.” It says the ideal person will have knowledge of track and field and a passion for the sport. N.Y. Road Runners President & CEO Mary Wittenberg and University of Oregon track coach Vin Lananna reportedly were among the finalists for the job last year.
