EA Has Sold More Than 10 Million Copies Of "FIFA 12," Almost 5 Million Of "Madden 12"

Electronic Arts, reporting earnings for its fiscal Q3 late yesterday, said it has sold more than 10 million units of "FIFA 12," and nearly five million units of "Madden NFL 12." Each figure represented an increase of roughly two million units from the prior quarter, and both titles remain ahead of their sales paces from a year ago. EA also said it generated more than $38M in revenue during the quarter from "FIFA Ultimate Team," its digital extension of the dominant console soccer title, a 69% increase from the same period a year ago. "We look at the ('FIFA' model as) an opportunity. We definitely have ambitions to drive additional digital revenue off of our console game business, not only in sports, but other genres as well," said EA Games President Frank Gibeau. To that end, the company said its overall digital revenue exceeded $1B for '11. EA's total revenue for the quarter rose 0.8% to $1.061B, and the company's net loss of $205M narrowed from a $322M loss in the same quarter a year ago.
