Vikings' Peterson Changes Mind About Switching Numbers Due To Jersey Costs

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has changed his mind about switching his jersey number for the '12 season after he said that he was informed it would "cost a million bucks to make the change,” according to Mark Craig of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Peterson wrote on his Twitter feed, “Why in the hell do I have to pay a Million dollars to change my number! I don't even get paid a million dollars by my sponsors a year! Wow!!!” He continued, “I have to pay a Million Bucks! Somebody's winning in that situation & ITs not me! So clearly with that said I won't be changing my number This years!” Craig noted Peterson last week “floated the idea of changing his uniform number from 28 to either 23 or 21.” Players who have switched numbers in recent years have had to "pay Reebok a refund for existing jerseys.” Nike is taking over the NFL jersey business in 2012 (STARTRIBUNE.com, 2/1). NFL.com’s Simon Samano wrote the thought -- or "hope, at least -- among players was that they wouldn’t have to purchase the existing inventory of jerseys with the number they want to abandon since Nike is taking over the NFL's license from Reebok in April.” However, Peterson was informed yesterday the "policy is still in place” (NFL.com, 2/1).
