In Wisconsin, Jim Polzin reports Univ. of Wisconsin men's basketball coach BO RYAN has "received a raise that will push his annual compensation package past the $2 million mark." The deal "includes $1.675 million from private gift funds at the UW Foundation with the first of four installments being paid to Ryan on Dec. 1." The amount from the foundation "increases $25,000 every year." Combined with a "base salary of $436,364 from UW athletics, Ryan's annual compensation package will be worth $2,111,364" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 11/9).

SEEKING CLARITY: In London, Jonathan Russell cites court documents claiming that F1 Management Chair BERNIE ECCLESTONE "lied about the reason he paid the $44m 'bribe' at the centre of a criminal case in Germany." The documents allege that Ecclestone "paid the bribe to ensure he retained control of F1 after its 2006 sale to CVC Partners." Ecclestone has "previously claimed it was to stop false allegations of his tax affairs" that Ecclestone and "his family trust, Bambino Holdings, paid huge bribes to influence the sale of F1" (London TELEGRAPH, 11/9).

RUNNING GAME: The 76ers yesterday announced that team Owner JOSHUA HARRIS will run the Philadelphia Marathon on Nov. 20. The 76ers, who also sponsor the event, will give away a complimentary ticket to a home game to every marathon participant. More than 27,000 registered participants in the marathon, half marathon and 8K will receive a voucher for one free ticket to an upcoming 76ers game at Wells Fargo Center during either the '11-12 or '12-13 season (76ers).

SPENDING TIME WITH MILITARY: Chiefs DBs BRANDON FLOWERS, DONALD WASHINGTON, JALIL BROWN, TRAVIS DANIELS, BRANDON CARR and SABBY PISCITELLI were "among a contingent that toured a hangar and the impressive A-10 Thunderbolt warplanes it contains at Whiteman Air Force Base, near Knob Noster, Mo." (K.C. STAR, 11/9)....Buccaneers GM MARK DOMINIK, QB JOSH FREEMAN, TE KELLEN WINSLOW, DT GERALD MCCOY and LB QUINCY BLACK yesterday met with veterans at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa (TAMPABAY.com, 11/8).

NAMES & AWARDS: The Yankees yesterday announced the team’s HOPE Week community outreach initiative "will receive two upcoming awards." The Daniels' Music Foundation honored them with the "'DMF Champion of HOPE' Award at their First Annual Benefit Cocktail Party on Tuesday at Millesime at the Carlton Hotel in Manhattan." The program "will also receive the 'Just Cause' Award at the PromaxBDA Sports Media Marketing Summit at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in Times Square on Nov. 15" (MLB.com, 11/8)....The NCAA announced that ESPN’s DORIS BURKE will receive its Silver Anniversary Award, which recognizes distinguished individuals on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their college athletic careers. Burke in January will receive the award alongside ESPN’s TIM BROWN, Sacramento Mayor KEVIN JOHNSON, Saints coach SEAN PAYTON, Knight Commission Exec Dir AMY PERKO and Basketball HOFer DAVID ROBINSON (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 11/9)....Former NBAer PENNY HARDAWAY yesterday unveiled his plans for a “seven-court basketball complex” bearing his name in Memphis. Penny Hardaway’s FastBreak Courts “will be an extension of Gameday Sports Park,” but organizers would not disclose “how close they are in securing the funding for the project which has an estimated cost” of $20M (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 11/9)....The Lightning and Florida Sports Foundation yesterday unveiled a new license plate with the updated team logo. There is an annual tax-deductible donation of $25 to the Lightning Foundation and Florida Sports Foundation in addition to state-mandated taxes, fees and vehicle registration (Lightning).
