Advanta Serves Up A Three-Year Deal For WTA's Philly Stop

PA-based credit card company Advanta has agreed to a three-year deal to title sponsor the Sanex WTA Tour's Philadelphia stop beginning in '03, according to Dana Pennett O'Neil of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, who notes Philadelphia returns to the tour's schedule after a three-year hiatus. The '03 Advanta Championships is set for October 27-November 2. While next year's tournament will be held at Villanova Univ., Advanta "has the option to move the tournament to other sites around the city." Meanwhile, Advanta CEO Dennis Alter said of attracting the Williams sisters to the event, "Obviously, we want to have the best field we can and they're the two best players in the world. We're not into that yet, but we believe we'll have a very, very strong field" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 10/4).
