Vancouver Reaches Out For Olympic Funding

The Toronto GLOBE & MAIL's James Christie reported that representatives from Vancouver's 2010 Olympic bid committee were in Toronto "looking for[C]$3-million to complete the financing of their $34-million campaign." Earlier, the group received C$1M from the Montreal business community. Vancouver 2010 CEO Jack Poole said that the bid "is being financed" 50% by government and 50% "from private sources," and that C$34M "would cover 'a technically flawless bid.'" Poole also outlined the group's $1.2B budget should it be awarded the Games. Already, province and federal governments have guaranteed C$800M for construction and facility upgrades. Based on the results from Salt Lake City, "the governments would get [C]$2.5-billion value out of their [C]$800-million investment" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 10/2).
