FRANCHISE NOTES

In K.C., Steve Rock writes that prospective Royals
Owner David Glass "plans to sell" 40% of his Wal-Mart stock
to help finance his $96M bid for the team. The two million
shares are valued at around $111M. After the sale, Glass
would still hold three million shares valued at $166M, based
     on yesterday's closing price of 55 3/8 (K.C. STAR,
3/23)....AFL Avengers Owner Casey Wasserman, who bought the
rights to the L.A. expansion team for $5M in '98, said he
"figures to spend" around $3M this year in expenses.
Wasserman: "I'll probably be in for at least $8 million
before the season concludes. We're hoping to have some good
crowds. There have been plenty of positive signs. The
season tickets [sales] have been good. We've received
tremendous corporate support" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 3/23).
