The '99 WOMEN'S SPORTS FOUNDATION SUMMIT will be held
in Arlington, VA, from April 27-30. The Summit will feature
an opening keynote from NBC Sports Chair DICK EBERSOL on the
28th and a closing keynote from Shock G LYNETTE WOODARD on
the 30th (WSF)....TIGER WOODS' new caddie, STEVE WILLIAMS,
has an agreement with Woods that includes "no on-the-record
interviews" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 3/25)....Bills QB DOUG
FLUTIE signed with JAKE ROSE of R AND R FILMS and GREENWALD
PRODUCTIONS for the rights to his life story, and TOM CRUISE
"has been suggested to play Flutie." It is undecided
whether the story will be a made-for-TV film or appear "on
the big screen." Release is scheduled for the holiday
season between Thanksgiving and Christmas (Rochester
DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE, 3/25)....In Milwaukee, Bob Wolfley
notes NOTRE DAME rejecting RICK MAJERUS as a candidate for
its men's basketball head coaching job due to statements he
made in autobiography on cheating in college: "It occurs to
me that there is an ideal candidate for the Notre Dame job.
But, unfortunately, Mother Teresa has passed away"
(MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 3/25). In Chicago, Skip
Bayless calls Notre Dame "so holier-than-thou arrogant"
(CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/25)....Magna Int'l Chair FRANK STRONACH
met last month with GA GOV. ROY BARNES to discuss his idea
for a $600M entertainment complex and horse track near
Atlanta (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 3/24)....BLUE DEVIL VENTURES,
a development company owned by Pistons F CHRISTIAN LAETTNER
and former Duke player BRIAN DAVIS, will renovate five
former tobacco warehouses in Durham, NC, into apartments and
commercial space. Fannie Mae will provide a $7.9M equity
investment toward the $36M project (Fannie Mae). The WALL
STREET JOURNAL's Kelly Greene reported that the warehouses
will feature 247 loft apartments with 14-foot ceilings and
exposed brick with rent ranging from $800 to $850 a month.
The group is "already talking about expanding" (WSJ, 3/24).
