In response to Bell Canada's decision to drop its
sponsorship of Don Cherry's "Coach's Corner" from CBC's
"Hockey Night in Canada" Quebec telecasts, 95% of calls from
Ontario residents to Bell Canada's customer relations line
support Bell continuing to sponsor the segment in that
province (OTTAWA SUN, 4/17). A Montreal GAZETTE editorial
wondered, "Does Bell believe that what is offensive in
Quebec is not so in Ontario? ... Bell should hang up on Mr.
Cherry in Ontario as well as Quebec" (GAZETTE, 4/16).
GOLF: Maxfli has re-signed Jack Nicklaus to a multi-
year deal to play Maxfli golf balls. Nicklaus will also
serve as a spokesperson for the company (Golden Bear)....Ray
Floyd signed a long-term partnership with Whitehall-Robbins
Healthcare, maker of Advil. Floyd has been the spokesperson
for Advil for the past year (Advil)....Toyota took out a
full-page ad in today's Wall Street Journal and USA Today
congratulating Masters Champion Mark O'Meara. In addition,
Top-Flite took out a full-page ad for O'Meara in USA Today,
the same copy which ran in yesterday's WSJ (THE DAILY).
MR. ROBINSON'S HOOD: David Robinson appears in a new
30-second PSA for "Reading Is Fundamental" during the
Knicks-Bulls game Saturday night on NBC. Robinson, in the
spot from NBAE: "You know, the most amazing things happen to
me every time I begin to read. I can fly among the moon and
stars or I can visit lands both near and far" (NBAE).
