ESPN AND BIG TEN REACH AGREEMENT THROUGH 2007

          ESPN and the Big Ten Conference have reached an
     agreement that gives ESPN the exclusive national cable
     rights to football and men's basketball beginning with the
     '97 football season and ending with the 2006-2007 basketball
     season.  The deal will also include women's basketball and
     women's volleyball.  The Big Ten also extended its national
     broadcast network deal with ABC Sports through 2007 (ESPN). 
     In Chicago, Michael Hirsley: "Big Ten football will be
     spelled two ways -- ABC and ESPN -- on television for the
     next decade" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/30).
