KARSTEN SAYS PING NAME NOT FOR USE IN DISNEY FILM

Phoenix-based Karsten Manufacturing Corp. has filed a
lawsuit against Walt Disney Co. claiming the company
violated a trademark by giving a cartoon character the same
name as its line of Ping golf clubs, according to an AP
report in the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Karsten says it has a
registered trademark on Ping golf clubs and the Ping name is
also used by Karsten on golf apparel, watches, jewelry,
household items, luggage, stationary and children's apparel.
Karsten's lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, claims
Disney's animated movie called "Mulan," scheduled for
release next summer, "will include a character that Disney
plans to name Ping." The suit requests that Disney be
banned from using the Ping name, recall any Ping projects
and pay Karsten unspecified damages, attorney costs and
legal fees. Disney spokesperson Ken Green declined to
comment on the suit (AP/ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 5/13).
