BRANDWEEK NEWS & NOTES: TRUE VALUE ALL-STAR PROMO

True Value and Coleman outdoor products will hold an
on-site MLB All-Star Game promo, furnishing seat covers
featuring both company logos, according to BRANDWEEK. Other
MLB sponsors will place coupons in the seat-cushion's
pockets, similar to GTE's promo at this year's NCAA Final
Four in Indianapolis. Chicago-based Sports Partners
     coordinates the promos (BRANDWEEK, 5/12).
NEWS & NOTES: The Broncos retained NJ-based Integrated
Sports International (ISI) for market research in their
pursuit for a new stadium. ISI will also be responsible for
consultation on sponsorships and licensing....In a
supplement previewing the '97 consumer goods market, Terry
Lefton writes on the '97 athletic shoe category. Lefton:
"Is a slowdown imminent for the $7.4 billion athletic shoe
market in the U.S. after years of healthy growth? And if
so, why?" Bruce Blanke, partner in six Athlete's Foot
stores in the New York City area: "I'm seeing a lot more
interest in boots as an alternative for teens. The hero
(signature) shoes from Nike are moving well. But under
$100, they have not been as strong as past years. That's
scaring some people, but I still see Nike competing mainly
     with itself" (BRANDWEEK, 5/12).
