SABRES OWNERSHIP SITUATION STILL IN LIMBO

Despite a Tuesday meeting by the Sabres' Niagara Frontier
Hockey ownership group, questions remain as to who will succeed
the recently deceased Seymour Knox III as the club's new Chair,
according to Buffalo's BUSINESS FIRST. James Fink reports
speculation currently centers around Robert Rich Jr., President
of Rich Products Corp., and Michael Rigas, son of Adelphia
Communications Chair John Rigas (who reportedly owns as much as
51% of the team). Others, including Sabres exec Seymour Knox IV,
Sabres President & CEO Doug Moss, Crossroads Arena Exec VP Larry
Quinn, and Niagara Frontier Vice Chair/Sabres Counsel Robert
Swados, are also under consideration. Rich: "Ultimately,
someone on the ownership level has to be willing to step forward
and take responsibility. ... We've talked about and decided the
new uniforms and colors. Now it's time to talk about the gut
issues." A decision is not expected until late summer or early
fall, but the owners are hopeful a new Chair will be in place
prior to the opening of the Marine Midland Arena (BUSINESS FIRST
OF BUFFALO, 5/29 issue).
