CHRYSLER TO BACK TONIGHT'S PBS SHOWING OF "HOOP DREAMS"

Chrysler, hopes to "make a fast break tonight in the
competition for African-American car buyers," when it sponsors
the television premiere of "Hoop Dreams" on PBS. Angelo
Henderson writes in this morning's WALL STREET JOURNAL that "the
company expects to reach millions of black teenagers and their
families" as part of a "wider campaign" that is named for the
film. The campaign will combine marketing with educational
programs in an effort to "reach young blacks and create a
community minded image." Part of the program will include
offering free copies of "Chrysler's Hoop Dreams Challenge" at the
end of the broadcast. The Challenge is a 10-page discussion
workbook with questions based on the movie that company hopes
will help focus viewers on staying in school (WALL STREET
JOURNAL, 11/15).
