METS' WILPON LOOKS TO BUILD "EBBETTS FIELD WITH A DOME"

     The most recent proposal for a new stadium for the Mets
calls for the city to pay $105M of the $457M it will cost to
build the facility, according to NEWSDAY.  The new stadium,
described as "Ebbetts Field with a dome," would be built in the
parking lot at Shea Stadium, and would have 50,000 seats, a grass
field, a retractable roof, and the feel of an "old-time"
ballpark.  A ranking official in the administration of NYC Mayor
Rudy Giuliani said talks were ongoing and that city had not yet
committed to paying any portion of the project (Joseph Queen,
NEWSDAY, 9/14).
